“As parents, we want to be the best first responders when our teenagers get in trouble,” says Dr. Steiner-Adair in a Your Teen feature article. But when she asks teens what their parents do that make the kids inclined to turn to them, the teens often say, ‘Oh, I’d never go to my parents.’” Why not? “Three words kept cropping up when I talked with these teenagers: scary, crazy and clueless.” Many teens feel their parents aren’t helpful first responders when approached with a problem.
